Underwriter

A rapidly growing short term lender is seeking a further Underwriter to manage short term property bridge and development loans.
Reporting to the Head of Underwriting the role will include:
• Responsible for underwriting and managing cases load of applications through to completion
• Maintaining relationships with the panel of introducers, surveyors and solicitors feeding back on level of service
• Adopt a pragmatic approach to underwriting applications and ask oneself “Would I be happy to lend my money on this loan.”
• Assess loans on their merits and make an underwriting decision as to whether applications proceed to offer managing internal and external expectations
• Pricing loans for risk under the guidance of the Head of Underwriting
• Understand and analyse key items such as credit searches, bank statements, financial accounts, property valuations and business appraisals in order to make informed lending decisions
• Deliver high levels of accuracy and attention to detail in data input and all written communication produced
• Develop a rationale for cases and communicate findings to the Credit Committee for their consideration
• Build successful working relationships with external contacts such as brokers, customers, surveyors and solicitors as well as internal teams to ensure all lending requirements are satisfied prior to release of funds
• Manage a large pipeline of cases through to completion; ensuring both company service standards and the lending policy is complied with throughout
• Deal with all internal and external telephone & email enquiries efficiently and within company standards
• Ensure a good understanding of all of the company’s policies, procedures and compliance guidelines, installing the principles in your daily practice to protect the company from any associated risks
• Embrace the principles of treating customers fairly and responsible lending in all decision making
• Willing to visit sites / clients as and when required
The Person:
The ideal candidate will have experience in the short term lending sector and will be experienced in working to tight deadlines and with multiple cases.
• Proven background in underwriting.
• A good knowledge and understanding of legal conveyancing
• Experience of working to tight deadlines
• Computer literate (good knowledge of MS Office suite : Excel, Word, Power-Point)
• Good knowledge of compliance procedures within the mortgage industry.
• Understanding of financial accounts, valuations, business appraisals and credit searches.
• Adaptable & flexible
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work on own and as part of a team.
